Though the memories are not hers, she is constantly bombarded with the guilt that if they had not been rushing to the hospital for her, they would still be living.
Her new guests provide her with amusement as they take charge of the new neighbor and lay traps in hopes of drawing out a ghost or two. But when sinister things begin with another of her boarders, Clair is left to lean on Helen and her friend Annie to help figure why.

I was hooked on this book from the beginning and didn't realize it was the second in the series until I'd been reading for a while. I kept on reading though and immediately got the first one after finishing this one. This review is on both Bennington Ranch and The Oaks.
I enjoyed immensely and finished both in less than 36 hours. Loved the blunt firecracker Helen and her best friend side kick Annie and the trouble that they find in their month long trip to different B&B's. Helen is taking a long break from her husband of 30 years when she finds him cheating on her and Annie decides to go along. Both books are full of suspense throughout, great secondary characters that become friends and nasty villains that sometimes are pretty dumb but so entertaining! Lots of humor also with the constant bickering between Helen & Annie and the situations their nosiness gets them into. This book (The Oaks) has ghosts involved and I've always enjoyed a little paranormal mixed in with good suspense & mystery. There is romance between some characters and it's all clean. No bad language etc.
#1 in the series had a lot of lack of editing problems but #2 is fine. My only real negative is that I don't really think the series title fits and could have been thought out better. I'm definitely hoping for more in the series and will be keeping a lookout for the next.
Could not put down much to my husband's dismay. It was fun and fast moving and the ghosts were a nice but not overdone.
